Thanks, that's great help to me. 
you are right i am using RHEL4. 
i also downloaded the file you mentioned. 
the activities i performed in linux is as under. 
i am copying and pasting text from terminal.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] linux]# rpm -ivh ltmodem-kv_2.4.7_10-6.00a1-1.i386.rpm

in the first command i mentioned the wrong filename by mistake. then i
execute the the second command, by giving your downloaded file. i think, it 
works fine.

but, i don't know how to test whether it is working fine or not (how to test
modem) ???? can you further help me to create a dial-up connection for
internet......
