I am also a Gnome fan. But I tried openSUSE 11.1 KDE 4.1.3 and it never crashed for me. I used it for a short time, like a week or 10 days. But it really never crashed.
Anyway, openSUSE is the boss of KDE. They might have been done something to make their distro stable.
