I can confirm the bug, and I can confirm Mathias Buren's workaround, posted 2008-08-19: upgrade Nvidia driver and add performance tweak to xorg.conf. With two caveats.
I installed the newest nvidia beta driver successfully, and followed this thread http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=118088 to set up initial pixmap placement. Caveat #1: adding that command to .xinitrc didn't seem to work, I had to run it from the command line. I'm not 100% sure .xinitrc is being run. Caveat #2: the improvement, while marked, is not a complete fix for this bug. Two sites I used to compare: 1) Slashdot, jump into the comment threads and scroll. The fixed control box on the left causes a noticeable slowdown normally. With this bug, slashdot comments are tolerable again. 2) http://www.bnrmetal.com/v2/search.php?name=black+sabbath is a site posted to mozilla bug 201307 as a test case for that bug. It speeds up considerably, but is still extremely slow. -- slow scroll with image as background-repeat https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/125970 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
