Thanks for working on the alternative patch, it has helped me to understand the issues better. I have just posted a message on the ubuntu-devel mailing list asking for opinions on re-enabling s2ram if my patch is applied here, as users will have to make an explicit choice to use it. How would you feel about that solution? Note that it's not guaranteed to happen for Intrepid.
