Michael : I'm still unable to reproduce this bug on intrepid, however if you think that adding usplash to rc1.d init level would make sense, can you prepare a patch for Jaunty and subscribe sponsors for main so your patch gets discussed? You could also discuss of that potential change with ubuntu developers on #ubuntu-devel on IRC.
