Yes, it seems to work with Intrepid now. I have just tried a few times and it works fine. In fact it was a bug with gnome I think. With KDE I never had this problem. I also tried other distros and there it was the same - kde works, gnome freezes. So at last I can suspend now, some days after ordering a new notebook :) Thanks a lot to everyone working on this.
