The issue you mentioned is caused by the change in your font configuration.
Dingbats is not a suitable font to use in your font settings. You can 'fix' it
by selecting System->Preferences->Appearance->Fonts->Application font, and set
this to a more sensible font, e.g. 'Sans'.
As this does not appear to be a issue with Ubuntu in general, but only
with your specific configuration, I will set the status of this report
to invalid. If you did not change the font configuration yourself, but
this was done somehow automatically, please feel free to reopen this
report.
