Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-orca
I was checking that orca was installed in Xubuntu for a user that relies on it but currently uses Ubuntu/Gnome and is considering switching to Xubuntu. I found that it fails to start. $ apt-cache policy gnome-orca gnome-orca: Installed: 2.26.0-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.26.0-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.26.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Using Xubuntu 9.04 alpha 32-bit, orca fails to start. Trying to start it from the command line reveals: $ orca Traceback (most recent call last): File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/orca/speech.py", line 69, in getSpeechServerFactories ['']) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/orca/gnomespeechfactory.py", line 52, in <module> ORBit.load_typelib('GNOME_Speech') RuntimeError: could not load typelib Traceback (most recent call last): File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/orca/speech.py", line 110, in init ['']) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/orca/gnomespeechfactory.py", line 52, in <module> ORBit.load_typelib('GNOME_Speech') RuntimeError: could not load typelib Traceback (most recent call last): File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/orca/orca.py", line 1086, in _showPreferencesConsole module.showPreferencesUI(_commandLineSettings) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/orca/orca_console_prefs.py", line 440, in showPreferencesUI (not setupSpeech(prefsDict)): File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/orca/orca_console_prefs.py", line 139, in setupSpeech speech.init() File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/orca/speech.py", line 120, in init _speechserver = factory.SpeechServer.getSpeechServer() AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'SpeechServer' ** Affects: gnome-orca (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- orca dies on starting: RuntimeError: could not load typelib https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347113 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
