I do not think I am still seeing the original issue: network-manager used to not finish its IP configuration before. Nowadays it does. Network configuration completes and looks sane (got the expected IP, routes are set, resolv.conf is OK). BUT the configuration does not work since the iptables firewall script I use (firehol) filters all replies to my DNS queries and stops them from ever reaching my system.
My system is back to normal once I stop firehol. This is a bit annoying, since I have some services that I do not want visible on the LAN and have not yet found a way to configure to bind to lo only.
