Ricardo, I installed 9.04 desktop from an USB prepared with the 'USB
setup disk' utility from 8.10. Not an upgrade, but a completely new
installation.

I have followed the standard procedure with no special events. First
boot after installation I am asked to complete the language support,
which is performed with no incidences.

I have also english installed but the language selected in my system is
Spanish/Castilian.

Synaptic says they are installed:

language-pack-gnome-es
language-pack-gnome-es-base
language-pack-es
language-pack-es-base

But I can't see other packages following criteria language-pack-gnome-
es* and language-pack-es*.
