I seem to have the same problem. I had sound on Intrepid, then reinstalled Jaunty and no sound at all (not even on the live CD).
What I figured out is: If I go to Preferences -> Sound, then change from autodetect to one specific line having Audigy in it, and turn up the volume to max in both the mixer and my amplifiert, then I hear some cracky sound, seems to be some distorted version of the music I am trying to play.
