I believe I have the same issue, I have a Toshiba L300D Laptop with a internal SD card reader on the front of the computer. When I plug in a SD card nothing appears, The dmesg does not seem to recognize when I insert or remove the card. I am using Kubuntu 9.04, and It was working before I upgraded. I was using Kubuntu 8.04.
