My problem is more like TMIT World's rather than the original post. Here are my steps to recreate.
Double click on the file or right click and select play with. The media player opens and instead of playing the file as expected it closes without any error message. I have recreated this with Movie Player,VLC, and MPlayer. I have also tried to open Movie Player then going to the "open" option under the "Movie" menu in Movie player with the same effects.
