Sorry, no way to get 9.04 logs, as the system doesn't let reach a command line...
But I think I have got something: I have compared the recovery start up with telinit 2 (which fails) and telinit 5 (which works fine), looking at the scripts started in each /etc/rc2.d and /etc/rc5.d. The only difference was the script 'S10powernowd.early' present in /etc/rc2.d and not in /etc/rc5.d, at least before the gdm script was started. So I have tried to delete that link to see, and effectively it works fine. So the problem comes from there. As I don't know what is the object of starting powernowd.early (There is a powernowd start later in the sequence of scripts, in both level 2 and level 5), I can't investigate much more. >From my problem point of view, the thing is solved, but it may have affected more people with similar hardware.
