The only documentation I can point you to on this is <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting>, which I'm not sure tells you anything you don't already know; and I don't have access to one of these laptops to reproduce the behavior you're describing. What is the noise generated in dmesg for these keys?
