This affects me too.
I have two Dells. A D830 and a D630.
The card is: ID 413c:8116 Dell Computer Corp. Wireless 5505 Mobile Broadband
(3G HSDPA) Minicard Modem
Ubuntu: Jaunty
When I switch on the computer, Ubuntu tells me of the card and asks me to
configure a connection.
I do so, but when I try to connect, it just waits a little while and then it
tells me it's disconnected.
Here are my /var/log/syslog:

Please help, as the device works in Windows and I find it rather
embarrassing telling my friends I can't get it to work in Ubuntu...
