Working around I've found the following Thinkpads have this issue &
solution:
X200
X200s
X200t
X300
X301
T400
T500
W500
W700
W700ds
Though I cannont figure out anything about the "SL" line of Thinkpads.

You don't need to test it. I've verified it's the same problem & solution
as all the other thinkpads
