I understand you write that, when you insert the default route manually the
route will not lost.
Have your tried to add them default route at first?
0.0.0.0 10.2.4.10 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0
10.2.4.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 1 0 0 eth0
169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 0 0 eth0
