** Description changed:

Expected: I expected the laptop to first go to sleep successfully and
  then resume again successfully.

What actually happened: The laptop *successfully* went to sleep.
However, when I clicked and touched the spacebar to make the laptop
resume, there was no input signal or simply a black screen. The fan and
lights kicked on normally but no matter what, the laptop only showed a
black screen. The only *solution* to escape is to hard turn off the
laptop by keeping the power button pressed until it shut down.

Steps to recreate: The laptop was set to have the power button for
suspension. Either way, 1. First press the power button or select the suspend
button from within the system.
  2. wait for the screen to dim, see some command line blabber and the computer
turns off.
  3. Press spacebar or click/move mouse and await for computer to resume.
  4. Wait hellish amounts of time until you realize the system won't give input
to the screen, see only black but the computer still on, lights and fan.

- 5. (extra) hard shut down the computer by pressing the power button for
- some seconds until it shuts down.
