Noel,
I tried using 0.8 version of network manager from PPA specified in the url
above.

Following are my findings:
1. upon host m/c reboot, ifconfig does not picksup other eth[x] interfaces
manually we need to start using ifconfig or nm-applet

2. while uninstalling:
libnm-glib0 will not be removed causing nm-applet to result in following
runtime error message:
"
nm-applet: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgudev-1.0.so.0: undefined
symbol: udev_monitor_filter_add_match_subsystem_devtype
"
Conclusively, ver 0.8 did not help me to resolve the issue what i highlighted.

As a simple and temporary solution we found:
sudo ifconfig eth0 down and
sudo ifconfig eth0 up

Any suggestions?
