a) I have no root password/user setup (this is the default!) b) the "UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY" can be worked around with the "buggy_init_scripts = 1" in e2fsck.conf This sounds like it's not really invalid. Anyway, I agree that the report is messy - I just described all symptoms I've seen. The root problem here is still there probably, though.
