** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: linux-generic
-
- The 2.6.31 kernel will give the message at boot time, 'i8042.c
- Controller Not Found'.
-
- I noticed this behavior on the 2.6.31 kernel on several distros where I
- compiled this kernel from source, now it also appears on the Karmic
- linux-generic 2.6.31 kernel as well. This does not happen on 2.6.30.x
-
- I'm running a 13" Macbook Pro 5.5, this is the only computer I'm using
- at the moment so I am not aware if this message appears on other
- computers.
-
- The problem is, after grub loads Ubuntu is suppose to get the logo
- splash screen loading and people are not suppose to see the console, but
- with this message it will show the console for a few seconds after the
- grub menu then the Ubuntu logo splash will appear.
-
- The point I'm trying to make is, even though the message may be
- legitimate, can the Ubuntu Dev Team just silence messages at boot time
- after the grub menu so the only thing we are going to see next is the
- Ubuntu logo loading?
-
- After all if we are concerned about boot up messages we can simply look
- them up in /var/log rather then having them spit out in the console at
- boot time, but at least let them run in the console in the background
- BEHIND the bootup logo that's suppose to appear and cover them.
-
- I believe that is what the purpose of the boot up logo is, so users
- don't get the console at boot up, especially geared toward newbies to
- give them a cleaner interface at boot time, rather then worrying the
- end-user about things they now nothing about or care to know about.
-
- Since I believe the purpose of the boot up splash/logo is to give a
- cleaner looking boot up, besides the 'i8042.c Controller Not Found'
- message I am getting, I've noticed also at times when things aren't
- supported by the hardware they are getting spit out onto the console
- first afte the grub menu then the boot splash/logo appears.
-
- Of course as we know not everything in the kernel will be supported on
- every computer, but for driver/mods that aren't then we shouldn't be
- getting error messages by passing the intents of the developers to go
- from the Grub menu to the boot up logo, but these things are, they are
- causing the console to still show a message first then the boot logo.
-
