I'm using gnucash 2.2.9 also, but on an up-to-date 9.04 Jaunty and have a very similar problem.
I can get transactions from my bankaccount but I can't issue any via HBCI PIN/TAN. If I try to do so I'm sent back to the account view I started from right after I entered all the transaction information and which account to book the transaction to. The transaction shows up properly in the account view, but was never transmitted to my bank. My logs look different though, but I believe this is due to a different log level. How did you get your logs?
