Not for me. The behavior is the same since 8.04. Also was the same with every kernel upgrade I tried while 9.10 was in development. I still can reproduce the overheating problem very easily. After a cold boot the fan never starts to spin, it would work as expected only after suspending to RAM and restoring, at least once.
