Thank you so much Dimas. I followed your suggested ubuntu forum. I did
not follow uninstalling madwifi-ng and so, because up to the comment in
the forum the driver seems to work o.k., but if I experience some delay
in the speed, I will follow your suggestion.
Although this seems to solve the problem, I believe that newer distros
should not leave us alone on this. It's an unexpected and disgusting
surprise to see your ever working wireless card not to do so after
upgrading to a newer distro.
