Costa,

Shang helped me fix 2.6.28.15 and then 2.6.28.16 through the update
manager presented no problems. However like you when I upgraded to
2.6.31-14 generic the boot failures started up again. cpu soft lock up
was the error. So I pulled out that hard drive and threw in number 2 and
loaded Linux Mint which is also debian based and uses gnome, synaptic,
firefox, and all of the goodies that ubuntu offers plus it loaded all of
the needed media codecs, addons, back ports, and drivers with the first
update that happened right after I got my internet connection
established.

The developers of linux Mint are using a jaunty Kernel but actually are
mirroring ubuntu on new releases and updates. I would like to be able to
put my old hard drive back in and use ubuntu but I can't until a patch
is released. I think that ubuntu developers are so tied up with other
problems that this will take a back seat until they get other major
problems fixed.

Down load a torrent of linux Mint and enjoy as I am now until ubuntu is
fixed for us.

If Shang could offer any help on getting 2.6.31-14 generic working on
our machines I would appreciate it immensely.

Dan
