To the reporters of this bug: Can you check with the latest version (Karmic) of Ubuntu? Does the problem still persist there?
In general, in Lucid the hpijs driver is replaced by an hpcups driver which is based on a completely new code base. There this bug should not occur. Try it with a live CD when Lucid Alpha I comes out this Thursday. Note that curtrent Lucid (as of today) does not print at all due to bug 489791. To the developers of HPLIP at HP: Please have a look into the crash report and the stack traces here to fix hpijs.
