This report has now grown useless as is. It seems to me that nearly all
contributors to this bug are experiencing similar symptoms (vlc does not
work) with very different causes.
As the original reporter, peter76, seems to have lost interest in this
issue, (no further comment since submitting this bug), I'm closing this
bug.
To all other subscribers to this bug: please report new bugs, but please
make sure that you use the 'ubuntu-bug' utility to ensure that
additional information, like the exact version of vlc and what
dependencies that you use are attached automatically.
