I have the similar problem, DELL e6400, Karmic is the first Ubuntu on it, no experience with earlier kernel version. It suspend/hibernate fine, but can not resume, tested according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/SuspendResumeTesting, First test failed, can not triggle suspend, then test 2 went to suspend, but can not resume
