Thanks everyone. It worked I installed it twice. I tried to use my old "/home" on a separate partition, which made it necessary to use a workaround. I started in the console and typed "startx" to get it to work.
My second install was cleaner. I installed home in a separate, but empty partition this time and it worked just fine. For the convenience of many users, please fix the "ubiquity/frontend/kde_ui.py" as Michael suggests. The other problems I encounter will be published in a new report.
