a hint to solve the issue is maybe: At a party, a guest spilled wine over our keyboard - the right side - (some guest!!) which made the computer go crazy at boot, by assuming false key inputs (beeping as crazy, some buffer overflow) But all the time after 20 secs or so it recovered and got on with the boot, the buffer still being full I assume.
It seems that grub doesnt empty the keyboard pipe and tries to deal with all the bogus input at once, and then crashes. so possible recreate effort might be to simulate a stuck key at boot up and going into grub. my workaround was to put in a live disc, and then go to boot from hard disk, as the live disc does get over the false keyboard buffer. now we restored to grub 0.97 and replaced the keyboard and all is fine. but it might also be that we were just victim of this bug and the wine and they are not related. Good luck!! but if it is, we can our guest be thankful for at least shedding light on this issue. -- grub menu is freezing when moving with down arrow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/453369 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
