I think I did something along the lines of 1. boot into Live system from the cd 2. use usb-creator for linux from there
(or: use PC with an installed ubuntu, do apt-get install usb-creator and use that together with the .iso or a CD) Both things are not very convenient if you have a windows machine without CD drive (like a netbook, for example).
