Same here: When booting on a kernel that is optimised for headless usage
on dedicated servers, plymouth quits ungracefully. I tried adding "--
debug" in /etc/init/plymouth.conf, which leads to the following output:

System: Ubuntu Server 10.04 (both 32 and 64bit)
Kernel: vanilla 2.6.32.2

Can you pleas tell us, which Kernel patches and/or options plymouth
needs to operate in the simplest possible way? (just text, no useless
highdef-coloured-25fps splash screen)
