Hope this data point helps:

1. Fan control worked fine with Karmic-9.10---2.6.31-20 after a
suspend/resume cycle.

2. It quit working with upgrade to Lucid-10.04---2.6.32-21 & 2.6.32-22.

3. When I boot Lucid (10.04) using the left-over 2.6.31-20 kernel,  fan
control works again, i.e., the fan slows down after resume.

4. This could be due to the kernel itself, or to the lack of loading
certain items that won't load with the older kernel.
