Seems that phonon-backend-gstreamer | phonon-backend does not work, because phonon itself prefers the xine backend. Anyway, I added a suggest on libxine1-ffmpeg for the 1.0 package. I marked this bug as fix released with it and will stay in kontact with upstream, so that we can have a second look.
