Maybe this is unrelated, but nevertheless:

when I tried to Computer Janitor, on each blade it took several (3-5)
iterations before all obsolete/uneeded packages were wiped out, i.e.,
the janitor cannot resolve dependencies in just one go.  However,
dependencies are represented as a DAG so one iteration should always
suffice.

Basically, it's the same behavior as shown by the upgrade.

Looks like the crux is in the dependency DAG handling during the
upgrade.

This is my 50 cent guess. Any objections?
