The IP addresses have now disappeared from /etc/printcap. I'm attaching an email reply from one of our sysadmins about why this might have happened. I hope it will be helpful if the problem crops up elsewhere, or if somebody digs into the ultimate cause of the problem -- jpl
========================== We were using BrowseRelay directive earlier which enables a server with multiple network interfaces to relay the polled printer information to the local subnet, I have since removed the relay and added multiple network interfaces on cups.research.att.com it selves so it will broadcast printer information directly to various subnets. This change may have fixed the problem you were seeing. Gang -----Original Message----- Sent: Monday, July 19, 2010 7:21 AM Subject: [Ubuntu-users] cups and printcap For reasons I do not (and probably need not) understand, the funny IP tags have disappeared from my printcap and I'm back to having simple printer names. I don't recall installing any updates involving cups, but I don't always check the full list before giving the go-ahead. I'd like to know what changed, so I can close out my ubuntu bug report. -- jpl _______________________________________________ -- printer names have IP address attached https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/598446 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
