Marius: things on Ubuntu should "just work".  If it's worth doing, it's
worth doing automagically!

Doing background notification from command-line processes properly is a
hard(tm) problem; to be optimal it will need introspection adding at
multiple levels in the stack.  But if you're going to that effort it
should be there by default for everyone out-of-the-box.

The key to making it useful and transparent is to refine what should be
notified (eg. when in background) and what should be contained in that
notification (ideally more information than just "finished").
