i chcked system > preference >start up application and apart from the
printer que aplet I couldnt find anything regardign the cups. I followed
the steps as in the link
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1550539&page=1 and my problem
is sorted now. printer is detected on start up.

But the cups were not present in start aplication menu bfore following
this article or after making that change according to that link.
