I'm a little late to this conversation, but the topic discussed here is still an ongoing issue in kubuntu lucid.
@Daniel T Chen -- I empathize with you and appreciate the work you do for ubuntu. Can you recommend a setup for a kubuntu user presuming all the apps are configured properly? pulseaudio back-end for phonon?
