I personally think it would be best if it did not clear the cache
automatically, at least not by default. There are certain cases where
users may not want their cache cleared, such as if they test pre-release
software either by using the alpha/beta releases of Ubuntu and/or
through PPAs and an update breaks an application. If the cache is
cleared automatically due to an error during an update, then they
wouldn't have the chance to easily install the previous version of the
application which still worked.Either way, the decision will ultimately
be for the developers to make.

Since this is requesting a feature addition, I'm marking this as a
"Wishlist" item. The description is also detailed enough for the
developers to work on the feature (if they so choose) and there do not
appear to be other reports requesting this same feature, so I will also
mark this as "Triaged" by request of RedSingularity.

Thanks again for helping to make Ubuntu better!
