Bob, I think the problem is related to the video driver. In your case, Mplayer 
was trying to call the VDPAU (Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix) lib 
to use GPU to help decoding your video but just found nothing there.
So please be more specific. Say, post your video card model, video driver and 
VDPAU lib edition, etc.


Any way, I do have the same problem, although the reason might be different...
What is weird for my case is I do not even have a nvidia graphic at all...(I 
have a radeon HD 5470.)

MY problem seems to be from the default "video output option" in preference. It 
might to be set to VDPAU. (while ATI offers *NO* vdpau support for now! ) 
So for me the walkaround is easy enough: change the video output to xv...
