The screen goes black for a moment, and the the login page reappears.
'lspci | grep' VGA returns:
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 760G [Radeon 3000]
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV730XT [Radeon HD 4670]
This is true for both the radeon and fglx display drivers
