I was not aware that Wireshark was used that way. Thank you. I don't agree that Wireshark is mostly used to analyze existing data. I have never seen anybody use it this way, and I've been using it since the Ethereal days. Wireshark is very valuable as a tool for real-time diagnostics. For analyzing data this way, it would be silly to create dumps, then open them in Wireshark and analyze them, then create new dumps, etc.
Then I would like to amend the bug report. Wireshark is not "useless" without superuser privileges, but there should still be a shortcut. Two shortcuts should be included so that one can launch Wireshark with superuser privileges. ** Summary changed: - Wireshark should not launch without super user privileges + Wireshark package should include a separate shortcut to launch with superuser privileges -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781935 Title: Wireshark package should include a separate shortcut to launch with superuser privileges To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wireshark/+bug/781935/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
