I can confirm this bug, I'm having the exact same issue. We've pretty much have the same video game too except mine is a Geforce Go 7950 GTX.
To answer your questions Harry, it's hard to say, it's pretty random and vary quick when it happens. I've found pretty much anything can trigger it and it's never consistent but I've found the password prompt after clicking install in the Software Center seems to trigger it pretty often, I've found the easiest way to trigger it seems to be right click -> properties -> close on any file or folder in the file browser... it usually happens when properties opens and closes but not always... like I said it's pretty random.
