Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gs

When I upgraded to Dapper, I became unable to print many multi-part characters
in a variety of fonts. The problem first manifested itself when using the
CODE2000 shareware font, but it seems to affect different multi-part characters
in different fonts. For instance, with the font Nimbus Roman No9 L, ἀ ἁ (U +
1F00, 01), pose no problem. But ἂ ἃ ἄ (U+1F02, 03, 04) don't work.
With the editor gedit, for instance, I can print a document containing only: ἀ
ἁ. But if the document consists of: ἂ ἃ ἄ, a gs process starts and uses all
the system resources, but nothing prints. Eventually I need to kill the process.
I can in fact print ἂ ἃ ἄ to a postscript file. But if I try to view it, I get
a "Loading" message, but the file never comes up. Again, there is a gs process
using all the resources, which I have to kill.
With the CODE2000 font, I was able to print many of these multi-part
characters, particularly those in the "extended Greek" range, but there were
often printed with systematic smudges, or with certain components missing or
truncated.
This problem seems to affect characters that have two components in addition to
a main component.
None of these issues existed prior to upgrading.

** Affects: gs-gpl (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Untriaged
         Status: Unconfirmed
