Regarding the launcher, these icons were designed for use in the app indicator (I followed existing icons in size and placement, so I think it makes sense the way it is. For launcher icons, different guidelines should be followed (e.g. http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Theme_Guidelines).
