No, I don't have your 840823/#34 problem, i.e., opening and closing an application -> problem. I can open and close, and things remain fine.
But yes, I'm using gnome-shell, not unity. So I am not talking about exactly the same conditions as you. I don't want to test unity right now, because my gnome-shell + ibus 1.4.0 is working well, and I don't want to upset the applecart.
