No, I clicked once per page. This way:

1st page: one click, scanned did scan the page;
2nd page: one click, scanner failed and hanged up. Needed to cut off the 
scanner power (unplug it from outlet) to do it again (powering off was 
impossible due to some problem between simple-scan and HP PSC1315, which has no 
ADF).

With xsane it worked fine, six pages (one by one) with no problem.

In both frontends (simple-scan and xsane) I picked the "single page"
option.
