I think it makes sense for ifupdown to stop processing an interface if
one of the scripts returns a non-zero return code.

I'll go check in the code to see exactly what's the intended behaviour
and confirm that it indeed was an upstream "bugfix" between alpha1 and
beta2 that's causing that change for you.
